My image contrasts two stages of a girl’s life to illustrate the abrupt disruption in education caused by societal norms. I overlaid a photo of a Nigerian girl writing on a chalkboard with an image of a woman hanging clothes, visually representing the forced transition from student to domestic laborer. The shift in setting highlights the unfulfilled potential of girls who are removed from school. The chalkboard displays the statistic, “12 million girls leave school to get married each year—1 girl every 3 seconds,” with the last phrase enlarged and colored for emphasis. By combining these elements, I aim to create a striking visual metaphor that prompts reflection on the impact of lost educational opportunities.
